Turkish Man Joins Search Party — for Himself
In what could be the most unexpected case of self-discovery, a Turkish man inadvertently joined a search party that had been organized to find… himself.
Beyhan Mutlu, a 50-year-old resident of the Inegöl district in Bursa, was reported missing by friends after he wandered off into a forest following a night of drinking. As the group lost contact with him, concern grew, and authorities were alerted.
A search operation was promptly launched. In a twist of fate worthy of a comedy script, Mutlu, who had reportedly sobered up and stumbled upon a group of volunteers combing the woods, decided to join in the effort — unaware that he was the missing person in question.
The search continued until volunteers began shouting his name into the forest.
“I’m here!” Mutlu responded casually, apparently still oblivious to the mix-up. It was only after a brief and somewhat confused exchange that authorities realized he had been with them the entire time.
“I was helping look for myself,” Mutlu later said, according to local media.
Officials confirmed that no harm was done, and Mutlu was safely escorted home. Authorities reminded citizens to drink responsibly — and perhaps to double-check who the missing person is before volunteering.
